Off the back of a more promising year of sales in 2024, Honda Australia has confirmed its latest stock and supply levels with CarExpert this week – and news is good if you’re in the market.

A year or so ago you’d likely be told you’ll be waiting months, if not a year for certain Honda models, but as of today the longest you’ll be waiting for any new Honda vehicle is around six months.

Headlines include more readily available stock of the brand’s hybrid models, as well as greatly reduced wait times for the Civic Type R performance halo.

As detailed above, some models – e.g. the CR-V VTi X+ and HR-V e:HEV L – have limited stock with more on the way in just a couple of months.

Meanwhile, the Civic Type R is currently in stock with new orders due to arrive in the second half of the year.

Honda Australia expanded hybrid availability in the HR-V and Civic in the later stages of 2024, adding more affordable e:HEV variants to both model lines in response to strong demand.

Australians took delivery of 14,092 Honda vehicles last year, an increase of 2.6 per cent over the 2023 calendar year. Leading the charge was the CR-V SUV with 5547 units (down 29.0 per cent), followed by the smaller ZR-V (4092, up 79.3 per cent) and HR-V (3350, up 53.5 per cent).

The Civic hatchback range just missed out on cracking 1000 units (966, down 26.7 per cent), while the niche Accord flagship sedan contributed 137 registrations (down 4.9 per cent).

Despite being well down on its yearly volume highs of yesteryear (60,529 units in 2007), 2024 marked Honda’s first year of annual sales growth since it switched to its agency sales model in 2021 and subsequently experienced its lowest sales since 1996.

The brand has committed to expanding its e:HEV hybrid lineup, having already made its Accord and Civic lines all-hybrid (excluding Type R) and adding a second, more affordable HR-V e:HEV variant in recent months.

Honda Australia remains tight-lipped on its plans for new model launches in the year ahead, but we expect its highest-selling CR-V and ZR-V SUV lines are due to get additional e:HEV options lower in the range, likely starting with mid-spec models.

However, the Japanese brand remains coy on its electric vehicle (EV) plans, with local boss Carolyn McMahon telling CarExpert in May last year Honda’s first EV in Australia will land sooner than 2028, despite previous reports – read more about that here.
